Mawson Block, Fort Collins, Colorado Mawson Block is situated in the historic Old Town area of Fort Collins. Considering the close relationship of the site to the historic district, RB+B Architects designed the buildings with a combination of historic and modern detailing. The three buildings include commercial space, upper floor apartments, condominiums, and office space.
The buildings surround a narrow private courtyard used by tenants. Sweeping paving patterns were designed to soften the lines of the courtyard and to provide interest. Cobblestone pavers were chosen to complement the historic quality of the buildings and the Old Town area. The intimate scale of the courtyard was enhanced by providing flower pots planted with colorful annuals and perennials.
In addition to the courtyard, BHA prepared the design for the urban streetscape improvements, including pedestrian lighting, special paving, brick seat walls, parking screen walls, metal railings, gates, landscaping, and provisions for the installation of an art piece.
